The existing mainline I-81 routinely experiences relatively high speeds, greatly in excess of the posted speed limit and substantial travel delay in the northbound direction at Exit 65 and in the southbound direction at Exit 66, which contribute to operational and safety issues.
Land Use and Access
New residential and commercial development is anticipated near Exit 65 which will increase traffic volumes near the interchange. While no future development was reported near Exit 66, the municipality’s recent comprehensive plan update and corresponding land development ordinance updates will likely stimulate redevelopment opportunities north of Exit 66.
